he India Meteorological Department said on Saturday that as the Southwest Monsoon intensifies, favorable circumstances have emerged for its spread into further areas of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the Northwest Bay of Bengal. According to IMD, the monsoon is also anticipated to cover other sections of Gangetic West Bengal, the remaining Sub-Himalayan West Bengal regions, and portions of Bihar over the next four to five days.
Over the next four days, isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds upto 30 to 40 kmph are predicted for Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar. After that, as the monsoon advances, the intensity of the rainfall is probably going to rise.
Over the next seven days, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim region could expect widespread mild to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. It’s also possible to see isolated periods of heavy to very heavy rain, with June 15 predicted to see exceptionally heavy rain.
Over the next seven days, Assam and Meghalaya can anticipate widespread mild to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall predicted over the next five days. There is a forecast for exceptionally high rainfall in Meghalaya from June 15 to June 19 and in Assam from June 17 to June 19. Similar weather patterns with widespread light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds will be experienced by other northeastern states, including as Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Over the following five days, these areas will also have intermittent periods of heavy to extremely heavy rain.
In Odisha, mild to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in the next several days, with isolated heavy rains anticipated on June 15, 18, and 19. Over the next five days, moderately widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning is expected in Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada. On June 16, in Konkan & Goa on June 18 and 19, in Madhya Maharashtra on June 19, and in Marathwada on June 16, isolated severe rainfall is predicted.
Similar weather is expected in coastal and southern areas, such as Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Over the next five days, isolated to scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. On June 15, isolated heavy rainfall is predicted in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh; on June 17 and 18, Kerala & Mahe are predicted to experience the same.
Over the next five days, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh in central and western India can expect light to moderate isolated to scattered rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40–60 kmph). On June 16, there’s a chance of isolated hailstorm activity in West Madhya Pradesh as well.
A heat wave warning has also been issued by the IMD for a number of Indian locations, with extreme weather predicted for June 15–18. From June 15 to June 18, heat waves to extremely hot waves are predicted in various areas of Uttar Pradesh. From June 15 to June 17, similar weather is predicted in several areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi. On June 15 and 16, there will be isolated heat wave conditions in Bihar and Jharkhand as well. After that, the severity of the heat wave is predicted to decrease.
Heat wave conditions are expected to occur in certain areas of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu Division, and north Rajasthan between June 15 and June 18. On June 15 and 16, circumstances in Uttarakhand, north Chhattisgarh, and northeast Madhya Pradesh will be identical. Regions in Gangetic West Bengal and north Odisha will be affected on June 15, with relief expected soon after.
