In a significant development, the World Bank, in collaboration with Pakistan, is set to visit a project in Jammu and Kashmir, marking a notable diplomatic initiative in the region.

The project visit is emblematic of the World Bank’s role in fostering development and stability in regions facing challenges. Jammu and Kashmir, a region historically marked by political sensitivities, has seen various international efforts aimed at promoting socio-economic progress and reconciliation.

This is mainly to talk about the hydroelectric power project in Jammu and Kashmir that Islamabad has objected to.

The talks include the matter relating to the time when world Bank backed 1960 Indus water treaty. Allocating the western rivers to Pakistan and the eastern rivers to India. Which provides a huge irrigational framework to both the nations.

This the first time since 2022, when India allowed such a visit though for the IWT, and the first contact since the return of the NDA government.
