India Qualify For Semi-Finals With 24-Run Win over Kangaroo

India defeated Australia by 24 runs in their last Super Eight match in St Lucia to advance to the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals. With the win in Group 1, India reached a point total of 6—a feat that none of Australia, Afghanistan, or Bangladesh were able to match. Speaking about the match, India amassed 205 for 5 in 20 overs thanks to 92 runs off 41 balls from Rohit Sharma, who also smashed 7 fours and 8 sixes. Mitchell Marsh (37 off 28) and Travis Head (76 off 43) kept Australia in the chase, but after they left, India took control of the match.

After hitting 76 off 43 balls, Travis Head looked to be making a spectacular comeback, but in the 17th over, he was dismissed for just 1/19 by Jasprit Bumrah, and Australia’s chances of victory vanished along with him. Their pursuit eventually faded.

After Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja were hit by Head’s blitz, Arshdeep Singh took 3/37 from 4 overs, while Axar Patel (1/21 from 3) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/24 from 4) helped level the score through the middle overs.

Australia will have to wait to find out the outcome of Bangladesh vs. Afghanistan. Australia will play South Africa in the semifinals if Bangladesh wins, but not by a significant amount. If Bangladesh wins by a wide margin, even the Bangla Tigers would like a shot at competing in the competition’s knockout round. If Afghanistan wins, they will automatically go to the semifinals.
