29 Police Officers Dismissed for Extortion in Yogi Adityanath’s Uttar Pradesh

In the notorious city of Mirzapur, brought to public attention through popular web series, 29 police officers have been dismissed on charges of extortion. The Uttar Pradesh police have taken this stern action following serious allegations of these officers exploiting their positions to extort money.

The dismissed officers had been serving in various police stations across the district. The initial investigation began after two constables and 16 touts were arrested for extorting money from truck drivers at the Uttar Pradesh-Bihar border. Subsequent investigations revealed the widespread abuse of power and involvement in criminal activities among the accused officers.

Mirzapur Superintendent of Police (SP), Avinandan, made the decision to dismiss the implicated officers after thorough examination of the allegations. He stated, “The dismissed officers had a history of extortion and misconduct. Multiple complaints had been filed against them, and after careful scrutiny, we found substantial evidence of their involvement in illegal activities.”

The list of dismissed officers includes Narvesh Kumar Mishra and Shubham Kumar Mishra, head constables of Mirzapur city, along with Krishan Kumar Pandey of Katra police station, Chandrashekhar Pandey of Vindhyachal, Ajay Pratap Singh of Dehat police station, Bhim Kumar Singh, Sushil Singh, and Ramanand Yadav of Chilla police station, Bihari Singh and Jala Singh of Padri, Sadanand Tiwari of Kachhwaya, Nagendra Singh, Vivek Kumar Rai, Mukesh Chauhan, Shailendra Singh, Pankaj Dubey, Gyanendra Singh, and Santosh Kharwar of Chunar, Bhanupratap Yadav and Chandrashekhar Singh of Jamalpur, Virendra Kumar Saroj and Rajit Kumar Saroj of Lalganj, and Panindra Kumar Singh of Jigna, among others.

The scandal has sent shockwaves through the Uttar Pradesh police department, highlighting severe issues of corruption and abuse of power within its ranks. The action taken by SP Avinandan reflects a firm stance against corruption and a commitment to restoring integrity within the police force.

This crackdown on corrupt police officers in Mirzapur underscores the pressing need for accountability and transparency in law enforcement agencies. It also serves as a stern warning to other officers who may be engaged in similar illegal activities, reinforcing the message that misuse of power will not be tolerated.

As the investigation continues, the dismissed officers may face further legal proceedings. The incident has sparked widespread discussions about the necessity of systemic reforms to root out corruption and ensure that those entrusted with upholding the law do not become perpetrators of crime themselves.

The recent dismissals in Mirzapur are a significant step towards cleaning up the police force and restoring public trust in law enforcement in Uttar Pradesh.
