India had a memorable day on Sunday in the Paris Olympics, especially in shooting. Manu Bhaker made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a medal in shooting at the quadrennial event. The 22-year-old bagged bronze in the final of the women’s 10m Air Pistol event. Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta also made their way through to the final of the 10m Air Rifle events.

Meanwhile, Arjun Babuta and Ramita Jindal also raised India’s medal hopes by qualifying for the Men’s and Women’s 10m Air Rifle finals. Earlier, Rower Balraj Panwar qualified for the quarterfinals of men’s single skulls after finishing second in the repechage round.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Manu Bhaker for her Paris Olympics Bronze medal win in the women’s 10m air pistol over a phone call, where he also praised the 22-year-old for staging a comeback after her loss in all events at the Tokyo Olympics 2021. Manu Bhaker became the first Indian woman to win a shooting medal at the Olympic Games. She also became only the fifth shooter after Abhinav Bindra, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Vijay Kumar and Gagan Narang to win an Olympic medal in shooting.
Manu Bhaker also collected praise from the shooting fraternity, including Tejaswini Sawant after she won the bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event. Bhaker became the first Indian female shooter with an Olympic medal.
