Landslide affects train services between Howrah-Burdwan Main Line

A landslide near the railway track between Chuchura and Chandannagar railway stations caused a delay in train services on the Howrah-Burdwan Main Line on Friday morning. According to sources, a landslide occurred in the Hooghly neighborhood of Debipur, near the Howrah-Burdwan main line’s Up railway track, as a result of heavy rain that began on Thursday. After noticing the landslide, a local called the Eastern Railway (ER) authorities. Up Hool Express was held at the Chandannagar railway station after receiving the information.

When emergency room authorities and engineers arrived at the scene, they saw that the landslide had taken place on the raised bank of a railroad bed. It caused a tree and a few slippers to fall into the pond next to the railroad track. ER engineers covered the bank’s recessed area with stone dust after seeing erosion. Train movement began after the repaired section was thoroughly inspected. As a preventative measure, the trains’ top speed in that specific location was limited to 30 kmph.

“The Engineering Department has filled up the subsided portion of the bank with stone dust,” ER authorities stated in a statement. Trains are able to travel through the subsiding region without encountering any issues because it is located a significant distance from the railway line. Nonetheless, a 30-kmph speed limit has been put in place on the UP main line at Chandannagar as a preventative measure at 8:14 a.m. today to increase safety.
