Odisha advises fishermen from going out to sea as another low pressure system is building over the Bay of Bengal

Department (IMD), this system may cause a low-pressure area to form across Gangetic West Bengal within the next 24 hours.

Due to a possible low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, Odisha’s Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) warned fishermen on Thursday not to go out to sea on August 16 and 17, according to officials.

In a correspondence addressed to the principal secretary and director of the department responsible for developing fisheries and animal resources, along with district collectors in Ganjam, Puri, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore, the SRC observed that a cyclonic circulation persisted over South Bangladesh and the neighbouring Gangetic West Bengal, reaching a height of 4.5 km above sea level and slanted southwest.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this system may cause a low-pressure area to form across Gangetic West Bengal within the next 24 hours.

It further stated that squally weather with gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph is anticipated across the North West Bay of Bengal on Friday and Saturday due to its impact and strong monsoon currents.

The SRC stated that fishermen at sea are urged to return to land. “In this connection, fishermen may be advised not to venture into north west Bay of Bengal on August 16 and 17,” the SRC added.

Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts are all expected to get significant rainfall, according to the IMD’s projection.

According to the IMD, lightning-producing thunderstorms are expected in coastal Odisha as well as other districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Angul, and Dhenkanal.

Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh are among the places where significant rain is predicted on August 16. According to the IMD, there could be further intense rain in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh during the next 24 hours.
