The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued significant weather alerts for 17 November 2024, predicting heavy rainfall in southern states and dense fog in northern regions.
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Kerala are set to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Moderate rainfall is also expected in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands throughout the week ending 23 November. Coastal areas are advised to stay vigilant against potential localized flooding and disruptions.
Very dense fog is likely to persist in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and West Rajasthan during night and early morning hours today. Similar conditions will affect Bihar until 18 November, and dense fog is anticipated over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya between 17-19 November.
IMD predicts a gradual drop in minimum temperatures by 2-3°C over northwest, central, and west India in the coming days. East India will experience a similar decline over the next two days, with no significant changes afterward.
In Delhi-NCR, smog and fog will dominate the mornings from 17-19 November. Today, the sky will remain clear, with northwest winds at speeds below 10 km/h in the morning and increasing up to 16 km/h in the afternoon. Wind speeds will decrease during the evening and night, bringing shallow fog or smog.
Residents are advised to exercise caution while traveling, especially in fog-affected regions, and monitor local weather updates for further information.
