CBI Unveils Potential Larger Conspiracy in Kolkata Doctor’s Rape and Murder Case

In a recent development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has revealed that there may be a broader conspiracy behind the tragic rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The agency’s revelations were made during a court hearing in Sealdah, where it was disclosed that Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the college, and Abhijit Mondol, the officer-in-charge of Tala police station, could have been central figures in the alleged plot.

The CBI has sought the custody of both Ghosh and Mondol, arguing that their roles were crucial in the case. The agency noted that Ghosh and Mondol were in contact with each other following the crime, with Ghosh purportedly instructing Mondol on how to handle the investigation into the rape and murder. Both individuals were apprehended by the CBI last week, and a court has granted the agency custody of the two until September 17 for further questioning.

The agency has raised concerns about how the Bengal government officials have allegedly attempted to minimize the severity of the incident. CBI officials pointed out that Mondol arrived at the crime scene with a significant delay. According to the agency, despite being informed about the crime at 10:03 am, Mondol did not reach the scene until 11:00 am, despite the crime scene being only a five-minute drive away.

A CBI officer stated, “We have obtained their custody for three days until September 17. Both individuals will be interrogated together as they played critical roles in the RG Kar case.”

The victim, a doctor, was found raped and murdered inside a seminar hall at the hospital where she had been resting during a grueling 36-hour shift. In connection with the crime, a civic volunteer named Sanjay Roy has also been arrested. Dr. Sandip Ghosh is under scrutiny for allegedly delaying the filing of the FIR and attempting to reclassify the murder as a suicide.

The investigation continues as the CBI seeks to uncover the full extent of the alleged conspiracy and bring those responsible to justice.
