Centre Cancels NEET-UG 2024 Scorecards for 1,563 Candidates Amid Allegations

The Centre has taken a significant step in response to allegations of unfair means during the NEET-UG 2024 examination process. It has decided to cancel the scorecards of 1,563 candidates who were granted grace marks. These students will now have the opportunity to take a re-test, ensuring fairness and integrity in the examination process.

The decision follows a thorough investigation by a committee convened on June 10, 11, and 12. Based on the committee’s recommendations, the affected candidates’ scorecards will be invalidated, and a re-examination will be conducted on June 23. The results of this re-test will be announced on June 30.

Despite these developments, the Supreme Court has upheld its decision not to halt the counselling process for NEET-UG 2024. Counselling will proceed as scheduled, with no interruption expected. However, all petitions related to the NEET-UG 2024, including those alleging malpractices, will be addressed on July 8.

The ongoing controversy over the NEET-UG 2024 results has raised concerns about discrepancies in scores and alleged preferential treatment. Petitioners from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have highlighted variances in the grant of grace marks and questioned the logic behind it. They’ve also drawn attention to statistically improbable marks and contested answers in the provisional answer key.

These developments underscore the importance of maintaining fairness and integrity in high-stakes examinations like NEET-UG. Cheating not only compromises the meritocracy and equal opportunities but also poses risks to patient safety in the medical field. As the legal proceedings continue, the focus remains on ensuring transparency and accountability in the examination process.
