The work for Purple Line of Kolkata Metro has received a much needed shot in the arm as Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has successfully completed the Diaphragm wall construction of the Victoria Memorial Metro Station. Diaphragm wall is the partition that will separate the underground metro station from the soil.
The Purple Line currently operates from Joka to Majerhat and the Metro Railway, city’s umbrella body for the rapid transit is chasing a 2028 deadline to finish the work from Mominpore to Esplanade.
Once completed the 14km Purple Line will connect South- West Kolkata with Esplanade where it will have an interface with the Blue Line and Green Line.
The work for other stations Mominpore, Khidderpore, Park Street and Esplanade has also made progress as Metro Railway will be draining out the water body at Manohar Das Tarang opposite New Market to make space for the construction of Esplanade station. Several legacy clubs of the city housed in and around Maidan area has also been relocated by Metro Railway to make sure the work for Purple Line goes on smoothly.
