Accourding to the report, The Omicron variant of the virus was found in 77.2 percent of the 1,499 swab samples that had undergone genome sequencing as of January 2.

According to the state health department, the delta variant was found in the remaining 22.8 percent of the samples. Genome sequencing is done to find out which type of virus infected the person. “This data shows that many people in our state are still getting infected with the delta variant.

Senior Physician Dr.RD Dubey said this means a large number of people may still develop serious illness and require hospital care.

The current surge in daily new infections is due to the Omicron variant spreading very rapidly, many doctors believe. The symptoms seen in most of the people infected in the current surge are runny nose, body aches, headache and short-term fever.
