Exam postponed: Students fret over Calcutta University decision

The Local Journalist Web Desk: Calcutta University’s sudden notice of exam postponement has taken all its undergraduate students by shock. On Tuesday the University issued a notice stating that all exams of B.A , B.SC Honours which were scheduled to be held on 13th Jan’23 will be conducted on 9th Feb’22 instead. The exam date is just a day before Makar Sankranti on which lakhs of pilgrims will pass through the city to reach Gangasagar Mela. This means students on their way to the exam venue might jostle with the crowd on buses and trains. To avoid such a situation and for the safety of students, the exam is postponed.

However, examinees who are visibly under stress because of the upcoming semester exams seem to have been disturbed by a sudden change in the routine. Some of them are unhappy because stretching the exam by more than a month is causing anxiety. While a section feels that the postponement of that paper is a blessing in disguise as it will give them some more time to prepare.

Moumila Das, a fifth-semester student of a north Kolkata college said “We are already under stress as we have a huge syllabus this sem. I had planned my revision course based on the earlier schedule, but now this postponement affects us mentally as we have to wait for a month long with this anxiety for exams to get over”.
