Heavy downpour likely in South Bengal from today: IMD

According to the weather officials, there are one or two areas along the coastline where rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds blowing at a speed of 30 to 40 km/h are most likely to occur.

Due to strong southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, heavy rainfall is expected to occur in West Bengal starting on Friday, the India Meteorological Department notified on Thursday.

One or two regions along the coastline are most likely to expect rain accompanied with thunderstorms and gusty winds blowing at a speed of 30-40 km/h, the weather officials said.

For the next five days, the Met Department predicted extensive rain and isolated downpour over the regions of North Bengal.

Heavy rainfall (7–11 cm) is most likely to fall in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Coochbehar, it said.

Due to the strong southwesterly winds, isolated heavy rainfall is also predicted for the districts of south Bengal, particularly South 24 Parganas and Medinipur, through Sunday, according to the MeT Department.

Meanwhile, Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, Birbhum, Murshidabad and Nadia are likely to receive light to moderate rain than the remaining areas.
