The India Meteorological Department warns of possible flooding, waterlogging, and traffic problems as it predicts further intense rainfall in Northwest India. Tourists are urged to look for traffic and stay away from locations that are prone to flooding.
Rainwater surged into houses and clogged main highways in the town of pilgrimage.
People frequently leave their cars parked on the dry riverbed of the Sukhi River, which receives little precipitation.
Suddenly, the river flooded, carrying the cars away into the swirling waters. A short distance distant, the river meets the Ganga main stream.
“The water level of Ganga rose due to heavy rains in Haridwar. Some people had parked their vehicles near the dry riverbed in Kharkhari instead of parking spaces, which started flowing into the Ganga river due to the strong flow of water. There has been no loss of life in the incident. Please park your vehicles in the designated parking lot only,” the police said.
On Saturday, the India Meteorological Department predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand and other parts of Northwest India. Conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to continue advancing, according to the weather office.
It is predicted that the heavy rains may cause subway closures, mostly in urban regions, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and localised road floods.
Occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall and disruption of traffic in major cities due to waterlogging on roads is expected to result in increased travel time. There are also possibilities of damage to vulnerable structures.
