Man goes to meet minister, gets slapped by TMC worker

A man was thrashed by a TMC worker during “Didir Suraksha Kavach” outreach program at Duttapukur in North 24 Paraganas in presence of Cabinet Minister Rathin Ghosh. The victim claimed that he is a member of a local Temple Committee and he had gone to speak to the minister regarding the Temple when some of the ruling party workers surrounded him and started beating him up.

TMC MLA Rathin Ghosh was there as a “Didir Doot” to listen to local people’s grievances under the banner of Didi Suraksha Kavach program which was launched on the instruction of TMC Chairperson Mamata Banerjee when this shocking incident happened. This incident has already sparked debate in the political arena.

The victim identified as Sagar Ghosh claimed he went there to speak to the minister with other members of the Temple Committee before he was hit. Sources said locals were complaining about bad roads, drinking water, and the alleged corruption in PMAY Scheme.

“I am a member of the local temple committee. I was sent by the committee to say a few things about the temple on hearing that the minister would come. Other members of the temple committee were also present there. We mainly went to talk about some of the problems that have arisen with the road in front of the temple and the natmandir. But suddenly I was beaten for no reason.” Said the man to reporters.

The person who slapped Sagar is Shibam Ray, a local TMC worker. A resident of Duttapukur’s Saibana area. “He is not an active member of our party. There are many supporters.” The food minister said this incident was due to an ‘internal problem’ regarding the cutting of trees in a local club.

Later, when Sagar’s political affiliation came to light as a BJP Functionary the saffron party erupted in protests in the district. BJP workers burned tyres and blocked Barasat-Barrackpore Road protesting the attack on Sagar by Shibam. “There is no renovation of Nanddulal temple in the area. There is no water supply. Today, common people have expressed their anger about it. Among them was Sagar, who was in the temple committee. When he went to inform the minister about the matter, Shivam, a Trinamool miscreant, pounced on him. We want him to be arrested. Sagar is a BJP worker. He is a member of Mandal Committee of Nilganj.” said Piklu Sharma a BJP worker leading the protesters
