Monsoon enters South Bengal but rain is still indeterminate

According to the MeT office, the southwest monsoon made its official arrival on Friday in few areas of southern Bengal. However, rain remained elusive in most of the areas of the region.

According to the MET, the monsoon made advanced in sections of the districts of Hooghly, Howrah, Purba Bardhaman, and Birbhum in South Bengal, as well as Kolkata, North and South 24-Parganas, Nadia, and Murshidabad.

Even though the southwest monsoon officially moved into the region, rain remained illusive in much of South Bengal, with the exception of the coastal areas in the districts of Purba Medinipur and South 24-Parganas. Nonetheless, South Bengal’s maximum daytime temperatures have dropped by three to four degrees Celsius. According to the MeT, within the following three to four days, there is a good chance that the monsoon will continue to progress into further areas of South Bengal.

According to the IMD, the monsoon has moved into North Bengal as a whole, where there has been a lot of rain over the past several days.

It said that, North Bengal, where several rivers, including the Teesta, Jaldhaka, and Torsa, are flowing, would see a decrease in rainfall intensity till June 23. After that, it may scale up once more.
