“Now, I look upto Uorfi Javed”: Viral Delhi Metro Girl

Rhythm Chanana, the Girl in Delhi Metro asserts her “freedom” to clad “bold”, adding she is not doing any publicity stunt or for becoming famous.

Internet was taken by storm of pictures and videos of a girl sporting DIY bralette and mini skirt while travelling in Delhi Metro! The curiousity among people to know about the girl in “bold” attire was palpable and it made #DelhiMetro trend on twitter for a beirf period. Netizens compared her dressing style to that of Uorfi Javed as internet exploded with videos of the her travelling in Metro.

Some netizens expressed were taken aback and dismayed seeing the 19 years old choice of outfit in a public place.

The girl, Rhythm Chanana spoke to India Today on the fuss around her clothes that has sparked the social media.

She underscored that she isn’t not inspired by Uorfi Javed, as netizens claimed. “It’s my freedom in what I want to wear. I am not doing this for a publicity stunt or to become famous. I don’t care what people have to say. I am not inspired by Uorfi Javed. I didn’t even know who she was until recently a friend showed me her photo. However, I look up to her after knowing her story.”, said Rhythm. 

“This choice didn’t come in a day, it’s a process. I also belong from a conservative family where I wasn’t allowed to do what I wanted, hence one day I decided I would do as I wanted since it’s my life. I have been travelling like this for many months now. It happened to be viral now. I have not been allowed to travel on Delhi’s Pink Line, but on any other line I haven’t faced such a problem.” added the viral young woman.

Twitteratis have went down heavily on her with a Barkha Trehan accusing her for “cultural genocide” while blaming Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for allowing such indecency in Metro.

The buzz and controversy has led Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to issue a notice asking commutters to “dress properly and not cause offense to someone in metro. TLJ found out that Photography and Videography are forbidden in Metro.”

Reacting to this, she said, “It’s weird that DMRC has now forgotten their own rule of no videography inside the metro. If they have a problem with my attire, they should also have a problem with those who shot it,”.

Asked about her safety while travelling Chanana said, “I haven’t faced any such issue. In the case of regular comments and eve teasing, I have learnt to ignore them.”
