Over 70,000 passengers recorded by Indian’s first under water metro.

After inauguration by The Prime minister Narendra Modi, India’s first underwater metro boarded it’s first commercial journey on 15 th March, 2024. The path stretches for 4.8 km under the Hoogly river.

As known, the first day of commercial journey recorded over 70,000 passengers.

The howrah Maidan Esplanade section of the east west corridor of the metro has the first tunnel under a mighty river. Out of the 16 km stretch the underwater corridor stretches for 10.8 km.
