Weather Update: Red alert for extremely heavy rains in Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa

An orange alert has been issued by the weather department for extremely heavy rainfall in West Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana.

In addition, an orange alert for extremely heavy rain is expected on July 16 across West Madhya Pradesh and on July 18 and 19 over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana.

According to RMC Mumbai, there is likely be severe to very heavy rainfall in several portions of Maharashtra today, with isolated areas in the North Konkan districts predicted to experience extremely heavy rainfall. The South Konkan-Goa districts are also forecast to experience similar conditions. It is anticipated that there will be heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Ghat regions of North Madhya Maharashtra, with isolated locations seeing extremely heavy rainfall. There is also a chance of isolated areas of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the Ghat regions of South Madhya Maharashtra. In isolated areas inside the districts of Marathwada, thunderstorms with lightning, intense rainfall, and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph are also likely to occur.

Heavy rain is expected in Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha from July 15 to 18, as well as in Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on July 16. The weather department has predicted heavy rains in Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Chhattisgarh, and North Interior Karnataka from July 15 to 19.

Regarding East and North East India, it has been forecasted that there will be isolated areas of heavy rain throughout Odisha from July 15–19, with very heavy rain in one place on July 19. Other areas of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are expected to see heavy rain on July 16–17.

IMD has forecast sporadic heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan from July 15–19, West Uttar Pradesh from July 17–18, East Uttar Pradesh from July 17–18, West Rajasthan from July 18–19, and Himachal Pradesh from July 17–18 in Northwest India. Additionally, the weather bureau has forecasted isolated, extremely heavy rainfall on July 17 and 18 over Uttarakhand and July 18 in East Rajasthan.
