RCB Edge Past CSK To Enter Playoffs, MS Dhoni’s IPL 2024 Journey Ends

Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Chennai Super Kings in a do-or-die game at M Chinnaswamy Stadium to enter the playoffs of IPL 2024. RCB posted a total of 218 for 5 after getting an invitation to bat first but they needed to stop CSK below 201 to enter the playoffs. The Faf du Plessis-led side fought hard to make things happen. With the win, RCB joined KKR, RR and SRH in the playoffs while CSK were eliminated, which meant the end of the campaign for MS Dhoni for this season. Earlier, Faf du Plessis scored 54 off 39 while Virat Kohli played a crucial knock of 47 off 29. Rajat Patidar (41 off 23) and Cameron Green (38 not out off 17) also helped RCB’s cause. In reply, CSK were restricted to 191 for 7 in 20 overs. ”

It could well be Dhoni’s last IPL game. At the end of 19 overs, it was 184/6 and CSK needed 17 to qualify. RCB captain Faf du Plessis entrusted the responsibility of the last over to Yash Dayal. Dhoni hit the first ball for six but the left-arm pacer held his nerve to deliver the right ball to have the legend caught in the deep. Jadeja was left to get 10 runs off the last two balls. Dayal followed it up with a perfect slower one for a dot ball and helped RCB qualify for the play-offs with a 27-run win.
