The city of Joy Sizzles as Temperature Hits 39 Degree Celsius

The Met office in Calcutta recorded a maximum of 39.4 degrees, three notches above normal, in Alipore.

As per the meteorological department report, daytime (maximum) temperatures will be 2-4 degrees Celsius above normal, in the districts of South Bengal over the next 4-5 days. Humidity levels are likely to exceed 40% during the peak hours of the day.

Panagarh in Paschim Bardhaman district recorded Monday’s highest day temperature at 42.7 deg C.

The other places, which recorded above 40°C day temperatures, are Bankura (41.5), Medinipore (41.6), Asansol (40.2) and Barrackpore (40.2).

Forecasts indicated Hot & Discomfort Weather Warning over the districts of South Bengal during 16th-20th April, 2024.

The Met officials advised people to avoid prolonged heat exposure and outside work from 11am to 4pm.

Election campaigns is however, continuing by various political parties and the contestants to woo voters despite of scorching heat, with the first of the seven-phase elections for the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal to be held on April 19.
